The Snake River Section is the local site where high school students can participate in the National Chemistry Olympiad competition. Students that participate are competing against other students across the United States to win a place on the International Chemistry Olympiad team.

The national exam consists of three parts (Part I: single-answer multiple choice, Part II: problem-solving, explanations and Part III: laboratory practical) and is administered in mid to late April. Marian DeWane is the chair of the Snake River Local Section Chemistry Olympiad Committee and can be contacted about the schedule for the local competition. The top three students to score highest on the local exam are recognized at the Section's Banquet/Awards Dinner and receive monetary awards.
